On Saturday, May 7th 2005, we had the great fortune of recommending that my son and daughter-in-law have their "special" dinner at the Grey Gables Inn. How lucky we all were in making that suggestion! My son, who is serving with the 20th ENG BDE, Airborne, on the outskirts of Baghdad, Iraq, is currently on leave spending time here in Petoskey with his mother and I. and more importantly, with his wife and daughter. Part of that leave was to have a certain amount of time for just the two of them, reconnecting and just being together after his absence of 6 months over there, and preparing for the next 6 months that he will have to be there to finish his commitment. So, we suggested that for a special place to go, somewhere that his Mom and Dad have gone for special occasions and would recommend, would be your restaurant. And so they went. She primped and preened. He was just happy not to be wearing cammies! Into your place they came. From the moment they walked in the door and were greeted, they knew that it was special! They were so excited when they came home to tell us first about the great food and atmosphere, but then just giddy when telling us that the bill had been "taken care of". I can't begin to tell you how much that whole event meant to us, as parents. We want so much to be able to make special times for our children, and more so when the time spent with them is more precious knowing where he will be going again. But to see their happiness,, and just to feel the aura around them when they came home, is hard to explain. They enjoyed themselves so much. We sincerely appreciate you kindness and support, not only of our son and daughter-in-law, but your commitment to your community shows through by your actions toward someone you don't even know, but went out of your way to be kind to. We are so grateful to you and your staff for making a very special night and even greater special night.
